Vehicle Registration (buying, DMV, price)

I bought a used car at a used car dealership. I have been waiting for my license plates and registration to come in the mail. I received a call yesterday from the dealership stating that my plates and registration were in but that I now owed them $131 for the registration fees.

I asked them why this was not included in the fees when I first got the car and that this was not brought to my attention at the time of purchase. They advised me that they are only required to pay $46.00 of the registration and that the remaining balance is my responsibility.

I have never heard of this before. Is this true? I always thought that the registration fees are added to the price of a car (when buying from a dealership).

That sounds crazy I would call DMV and ask them

Yes I thought it was a little odd too. I do plan on calling the DMV to see if they are able to do this. Just thought if anyone on here may know.

You signed a contract when you purchased the car. What does the contract say?
