Again. . .thanks.

The main areas that I am looking at are:

Murrieta
Temecula
Quail Valley

I am a current student enrolled in a CIS degree program and my college allows me to attend school online. I also am employed through Lowe's Distribution Center, which would allow me to transfer to their Perris Center. This would provide me a job for the move, and possibly pay for the relocation depending on the position.

Again, thank you for your assistance in answering this question.

I am also interested in utility rates in Palm Springs. I've heard there are two providers and one is much more expensive than the other.

Does anyone own a mobile home that uses solar panels?

This is very interesting. I've been trying to get some updated info for utilities so this gives me an idea what to expect. We're retired, so we definitely live on a fixed income and have to watch our utilities. We're currently in PA and will be moving back to CA (retired in 2001 from Riverside) to be closer to family. We're thinking of trying to stretch our $$$ around La Quinta area instead of inland.

Mitch...read on another topic here that out in the Coachella Valley for electric there's Imperial Irrigation District, which is supposed to be much cheaper (have to watch your location) and then there's good ole Edison, which is what we had in Riverside and it's pricey.

This is for myself and my wife and we try to conserve alot. My sprinklers for the lawn haven't been on much during the winter because we have had a few rainy days. When we shower we shut off the water while soaping up. (she does take baths occasionally). Our clothes washer is old school and uses about 40-50 gallons per wash, the new ones only use around 15 gallons I think. We have all new energy efficient appliances in the Kitchen. We try not to leave lights on etc. We haven't really used the heat (gas) but about 5 days since November. Our house is usually around 65-70f and a few of the colder mornings it has been around 60f but then the sun is out and we open the windows to warm it up in here.

This is just for the winter months, I am not sure how much things will go up in the summer. We haven't lived here in the summer yet.
Boy are you in for a surprise this summer. Unless you enjoy having your house at 80+, july -september will cost you.

Here's a little comparison.

I live in NW PA and our winter this year started in Oct. And didn't quit until the beginning of this month. We had over 120" of snow and at least 2 full weeks of below zero temps. This was a brutal winter and hopefully my husband and I won't see another one.

The comparison I'm making is with regards to your electric bills and my gas bills. Our home is heated with hot water baseboard heat. We have all new energy efficient windows, new storm doors and good insulation. Our home isn't big...around 1400 sq. Ft, so we're not heating a big drafty old house.

My highest gas bill was $314 for Feb. The average for 7 months was $205. My electric averaged $89 for 7 months. I won't even tell you how much we pay for cable/phone/internet because it's ridiculous. Our trash is $90/quarter and sewer is $140/quarter (we have a well so we don't have a water bill).

Thought you might be interested

Edison is on the west side of the valley (including Palm Springs). I left November '12, but the highest electric bill I ever had in the summer (1 person, 2-bedroom apartment) was $110.

We live in a 2800 sq. ft. home in Murrieta. We have a large 42X21 inground swimming pool with a spill over spa. We are retired so we are at home 24/7. We keep our home at 72 during the winter and 76 in the summer. The pool pumps run all year long. Our stove, 2 ovens, hot water, BBQ, heat are all natural gas.

Electicity $120 - 280 ( approx. $80 is for the pool pumps. ) There is usually just one month when it hits $280
Gas $15 - $120 Most months it is less than $30.
Water + sewer ( same bill ) $45 - 85. It depends a lot on how much rain we get.
Trash $58 quarterly
Verizon FIOS - $222 This includes xtreme TV package ( 500 channels + Show Time and Cinemax ), Internet 35/35 mbps, Landline phone, and cell phone.

This is very helpful. Thank you. We'll be in about the same size house, with a pool, and also home most of the time.
