I currently live in Orlando, Fl making 40K/yr Plus 30k/yr with my wife's salary. I am going to interview for a job in San Diego that's offering 80K a year. If I get the job and move, my wife will be unemployed for awhile due to the lack of jobs. Can I make it on 80K/yr in San Diego? Is there any decent/affodable ares around San Diego to live in?

I'm new here, but it seems to me that the answer is yes, depending on what kind of place you want to live in and whether you're willing to commute. Other people here can tell you more about specific neighborhoods.

Sure you can survive on 80K.

Just keep in mind, housing will cost twice as much as other parts of the country and will be half the square footage.

A steep price to pay to live in San Diego, but well worth it.

Yes this doable so long as your expectations on cost of living is understood beforehand.

Newer housing here can cost 3 times as much as Orlando for comparable sized house here.

Where I live in an area called Lemon Grove is like the outskirts of Orlando near Winter Park. Older, 1950s and 60s era homes. Mixed in condition (very well kept to run down) but safe. Looks a lot like other towns in the US from this era. If you dont have kids its even better as being in school districts here can cost a small fortune to live in. Has great freeway access and is a 10 min drive to downtown.

Of course this all depends on the location of the job you are interviewing for.

DO you know where it is?

yes, on $80K you can make it. Please remember, though, you will be paying state taxes here and they are high. If you rent for awhile, which I strongly recommend, you could definitely find a great apt in a desirable area with that income.
