I just moved to Rancho Bernardo and will need to make a commute from RB to Irvine for a few months.

Anyone on this board familiar with a commute from Rancho Bernardo (4S) to Irvine (very close to the John Wayne airport)?

I would love to hear how long of a commute it would be in traffic as well as any tips.

I've got some limited info for you. We moved down last year - my old office was at Michelson and Von Karman a block from JWA. It's our SoCal HQ so I'm still up there 2-3 times a month, though usually I can arrange things where I don't have to be there until 10 or so, and that helps a LOT.

At least in RB you are north of the 5/805 aka Sorrento Mess. Avoiding that whole area is a real plus for you - although I've heard the 78 can be a real bear.

Once north of the 5/78 you are mostly free and clear - if you spend the $$ on the Toll Road. If you don't, you'll likely get to enjoy TWO SoCal rush-hours each morning - one on the 78, and then again on the 5/405 north of San Juan Cap.

Assuming the toll road, I think you are looking at 1.5 hours each way.
