Total: $1,340.07 - This is less than it would have cost me to move within San Diego.
Lots of people go without it and chances are it wont be a problem, but have you considered an FM-2 or FM-3 Mexican Visa. I think they are less than 200 bucks and gives you the legal right to live in Mexico for an extended period of time. I don't remember the exact difference in the 2 and 3 but one makes you a resident and the other makes you an extended visitor.

Visas aren't needed unless you're moving into the interior of Mexico, of which I have no plans to do.

I did close to a year's worth of research after I decided to move. I didn't just blindly move across the border. There was a lot of information that I needed to know before it could be done.
