Im looking for a hotel for one night. Im hoping for right on the beach. There will be 3 of us. We are all in are mid 20's. We are looking to spend around 250.00. We need just a one bed room with 2 beds. I would prefer not a Motel 6 or Days Inn type hotel but Im not expecting nor can we afford a Ritz type hotel. Something in the middle or a little higher end. Any suggestions. Something with bars or fun things for young people to do near by. Thanks in advance for your help.

The Catamaran is nice: San Diego Hotels | Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, San Diego, CA

There are several bars and lots to do within easy walking distance. However, you won't get to see much of the area in one day.

any other suggestions? You have to stay at least 2 days at the catamaran.

You're probably going to find a 2-3 nite minimum at most of the beach hotels.

Here are a few more to try:
San Diego Hotels on the Beach | Pacific Terrace Hotel | California
San Diego Hotels | Bahia Resort Hotel, San Diego, CA
Pacific Beach San Diego Hotels: Welcome to the Blue Sea Beach Hotel

All are very walkable to things to do.

To be right on the beach, google hotels in Pacific Beach/PB, Mission Bay [the bay not the beach but you can drive to nearby mission beach]. Mission Beach I think usually has condo and house rentals, but search for hotels. Encinitas is a north county coastal city-about 20-30 minutes from central SD. It's a great, vibrant town and moonlight beach is beautiful. There are a few bars and lots of restaurants/shops.

If you want a really strong party/young crowd, you need to look at PB, Ocean Beach/OB and Mission Beach.
La Jolla and Del Mar are quieter overall, BUT Del Mar does have a lot of activity at the beach-bonfires, young professionals, etc and there are many excellent restaurants and shops walking distance from the beach, in del mar village. You will find some nice bar areas of restaurants, with ocean views, but it's more professional-older 20's/30's crowd than the other areas.

I don't know rates or hotel names off hand, sorry.

If you want to stay close by (a couple of miles), but not *on* the beach, check hotels in the 92130 zip code-I think there's a hilton and a marriott. Also, hotel estancia is nice and might be in your range-but weekend nights are usually higher, so I don't know....

Diamondhead Inn in Pacific Beach, on Diamond Street, on the bluff overlooking the beach. A modest place with suites (+ kitchens) where you can squeeze in 3 people easily, and a row of bars along Mission Boulevard stretching all the way from the hotel to the roller coaster and Mission Beach...

Definitely check out Tower 23 Hotel in PB. Nice place right the Boardwalk and the some good people watching from the outdoor patio at JRDN. Lot's of pretty people, especially during the Summer. Tons of bars nearby.
