Like I said, a lot of middle mgmt needs people to pat on the head to justify their existence.

There's that. There's also the idea of forcing people to relocate or they can let them go without being forced to pay unemployment benefits. Then they can fill that spot with someone who makes less.

It's callous but work is business. It's a win, win, win depending on the role needs.

One thing companies learned from covid, how to trim operational fat. That's easy quantifiable data. The intangibles a well trained/talented employee vs poorly trained/talented employee is hard to put on paper.
