PHILS BBQ on the other hand has KILLER burgers but you need to wait for 20 minuted for them to prepare it....WHY ? Because they make them FRESH. You can't get that at In and Out.

How about MEXICAN FOOD is overrated in SD ?

I've had some of the worst mexican food ever in SD. The funny thing is the best has been at Old Town...a high tourist area.

You kind of missed my point. Bloom was comparing In-n-Out to Dick's in the Seattle area, the latter place is awful but Seattlelites lionize it. But you are right, in part, about memory association re CA & In-n-Out.

As for Mexican food...just like any cuisine, every single restaurant will not have wonderful food. But the odds of finding great Mexican food will be higher, the closer you are to the Mexican border.

Yes, lard-filled On The Border and Tio Leo's chains should be banned in SD and nationwide.
Seattle area now has "CaliBurger" seemingly copycatting In-n-Out.

To me, In n Out is nothing more than a well done hockey puck that derives its flavor from onions and thousand island dressing. Almost, not quite, a West Coast version of White Castle (the ingestion part is OK but the digestion part takes 3 full days to ....you know what I mean). The meat is not the star of the show, which is why I eat a burger in the first place--for the flavor of the meat. Likewise, a couple of other local institutions do not do it for me for that reason either, such as Hodads, Rocky's and Burger Lounge...I much prefer a true restaurant quality burger such as the ones at JRDN at Tower 23, Beaumonts, and McCormick & Schmicks (my gold standard is the Black Label at Minetta Tavern NYC). Granted, restaurant v fast food but if I am going to eat any kind of meat I want good meat.

There is a Temecula Heights neighborhood in San Diego. It's right near Ocean Beach.

No, they only DRINK wine in OB. LOL.

Temecula (the city and "wine" area) is in Riverside County, not San Diego County. (I do agree that Temecula wines and the "Temecula wine country" are a bit overrated).
