This little city has all kinds of attitude going on.

Local drivers honk at each other regularly and they tailgate.

The surfers think they have real waves, when Hawaii makes them look like a joke. Not only that, most of them look scruffy, grubby and surly on top of it.

The store cashiers are all paranoid, because after Encinitas banned plastic bags, every time they ring someone up they are ready to get yelled at about having to buy a paper bag! It's pretty clear that most people do not bring their own bags, creating a huge feeling of guilt in the employees.

They think they have a beach, well that is after you walk down the side of a cliff to get there! Golden sand, it is not. Impressive? Nope.

Bottom line, this town is an overpriced, egoed out location that is not worth the money.

Ugh, just look at it. You can practically hear all the car horns honking and people screaming at store clerks about no plastic bags! Haha

The vibe of Encinitas has deteriorated over the past couple decades. Full of rich transplant soccer moms and salary men. People driving all makes of high end cars. Local retailers only catering to the wealthy and wanna be wealthy. Used to be that Encinitas was a surf town, laid back, chill. Now the amount of plastic surgery, fish lips, fake boobs, yoga pants is sickening.

Maybe you're right. Just know that this goes with the territory in expensive areas in coastal California. Maybe it's best to try to ignore the plastic surgery, duck lips, fake boobs, and yoga pants. A lot of us tune it out.

I like Encinitas. The scenery is beautiful and the feeling is laid back.

The clerks at stores sometimes have issues since they can't afford to live where they were born. I feel sorry for them.

The residents are decent for the most part . Americans aren't the friendliest people regardless so I don't take it personally.

No diversity of people....mainly white but I'll be damned if the crime rate isn't super low compared to more urban areas.

I came to California to chill out and enjoy the outdoors. I found it here. If I could afford to buy a house I would do so in Encinitas or Carlsbad. You can't get too much better in the USA.

I am a NYC transplant. I hate yuppies and fish lips

The crowd can be borderline douchebag in the beach area. I am definitely not a DUDE. I thought I was going to connect with those guys but NO THANKS.

The main thing is to make your own scene/life. Don't let the status quo dictate how you live.

My bubble is a nice one. Del Mar would be my second choice.

Any city in America has been gentrified. My only fear is not being able to afford any of them. Hopefully I will retire to South America when that happens.

Encinitas is one eclectic town. You have all kinds in Encinitas, from homeless to doctors to drug addicts to surfer dudes to ghetto cruiser RV camping types to soccer moms to religious yogis. They all found Encinitas. I work in Encinitas, but I could never afford to live here. The town has grown up a lot over the years, in terms of traffic and crowds. It's not sleepy anymore folks. It's very very touristy too as one could only imagine. I do like the City Council. I feel they honestly care about the future of the city- but only time will truly tell.

I've lived in Encinitas almost 28 years and have really seen it change, but I'd never say it's over rated...I mean, compared to what? As mentioned before there is something for everybody here, whatever your lifestyle. I wouldn't really want to live anywhere else in SD, except maybe Carlsbad. Encinitas has gone from small, cool beach town to suburb to being its own city and is becoming more and more urban like. Sadly I'm being priced out and will eventually need to leave...I've looked and there's little to compare in the US, especially our weather. I was sorry to see Cardiff Market go from being a wonderful local market to expand but I guess there was a need for a bigger store, hope it doesn't lose its local flavor. The traffic is really the only big negative but that's happening all over SD. I appreciate each day I get to live here!
