If you're thinking of buying a food truck, wait until you move here, it'll be much easier DMVwise.

Also if you're thinking of buying a food truck, keep in mind that they're a dime a dozen here. And they all have (or try to have) their niche. Probably also true in LA. You'll have lots of competition.

In addition to DMV issues, if you bring in a food truck from out of state, it may not comply with California and San Diego County food truck regulations, which may slow down your permitting and licensing process.

You may have already come across these resources in your research, but just in case you haven't they may be helpful:

County of San Diego Mobile Food Operator's Handbook: http://www.sandiegocounty.gov/conten...uide_en_mp.pdf -- towards the end of the booklet, you'll find a list of zoning rules for most of the cities in the county, plus contact information for getting permits, inspections, licenses, etc. Note the date on the guide, as this may not be the most current version.

County of San Diego FAQs for Mobile Food Operators: http://www.sandiegocounty.gov/conten.../mfffaq_mp.pdf

San Diego Food Trucks Resources for Food Truck Operators: http://sdfoodtrucks.com/resources/ (Same site also has a *small* list of "gourmet" food truck operators, but it isn't all inclusive; there are many more trucks here than listed. But it will give you a heads up on at least some of the competition here. http://sdfoodtrucks.com/list-of-trucks/)

And, the San Diego Chapter of the Small Business Association's SCORE program has great (free!) resources for anyone thinking of starting a business in San Diego County. They even have mentors who will meet with you to go over your business plan. They're a good place to get in touch with if you move forward with coming here. https://sandiego.score.org/

Good luck with your plans!

Yes that's one of the main things on my mind when I came up with the idea (competition), long term goal is to have a restaurant but starting out Food truck is the direction I want to go. I believe coming from the east coast offering something different would be a big part of my niche.

Now, that could be a good foodie niche for a potential food truck venture. There's already Cousins Maine Lobster, which franchises food trucks in a number of cities. Real Maryland crab cakes could do well in California.

I'd rather live in Detroit than LA. I hate LA. San Diego all the way.
