I'm surprised that businesses turned on a dime with this one. Certainly they still had more plastic bags, and certainly the law isn't in effect yet. Did they just throw away the rest of the bags? Why not use them until they are gone?

I assume the plastic bags to put fruit into or to rap around chicken are still available - - or are we just supposed to have a chaotic contamination bag of all of our purchases?

This new law is bull****! I voted against the prop as it just adds another measly unnecessary tax to us citizens. Those 10 cents goes back to the grocer, not to environmental causes, and even if it did, the extra money will just be wasted anyways like how the majority of tax dollars are in CA.

It hurts low-income people that don't have extra money to bag their items especially if they only carry little cash on them, and will now force everyone to buy little trash bags in order to use them as spare bags around the house for their pets, or personal use.

The new law is stupid and does nothing to address the environmental aspects of the damaging effects of plastic bags hurting the environment, but rather, it gives more money to the stores. That's what it is truly about.

If environmentalist were so concerned about the oceans being littered with plastic, why not just ban plastic bags entirely for use including trash bags, and force us to use paper instead???? Why target carry out bags?

BTW I think liquor stores and gas stations still give bags out to customers for free. They have a longer time to implement the ban, or are maybe not required to do so.

I'm with ya on this one. Not everyone has the capacity or space to carry around a bunch of bulky cloth bags.

I was told that the plastic bags were sent out to be recycled.

My bags aren't bulky. They found up into a little pouch, and you can put them on your key chain, since they come with a little carabiner.

Problem is many are deep and hold more than a typical plastic bag, so the bagger loads them up making them twice as heavy for people to carry, some may have issues with that.

One solution to that problem is to only shop at the kind of stores where you have to do your own bagging. I like to use insulated bags for cold groceries, to not be in a hurry to take them home. Good insulated bags will keep stuff cold or frozen for hours. But no way would I want a bagger to load my insulated bags. Baggers tend to throw heavy stuff in the bags instead of placing the stuff in neatly. The heavy stuff hits packages with sharp corners, which poke at the sides of the bags, so they don't last as long.

Bulky? Space? They collapse and lay flat, and you can leave them in the trunk of your car.

That's one of the best arguments so far against the ban on plastic bags.

We recycle most of the plastic bags we get from the stores, as many people have commented here have said.

I'm hoping for a ban reversal in a year or so after we realize what a disaster this is.

We adjusted just fine to this new law. Bring your own bags with you when you go shopping.
