We have a wood burning stove and a fire place on top of a fire pit outside so looking forward to expanding my carbon footprint soon. Red oak burns hot!

How is your house in the low 70’s in the morning without the use of a heater? I’ve gone years without turning on my heater too, but I don’t ever recall it being that warm in the mornings, not even close. It’ll go weeks without it even reaching 70 outside during the day.

Thank you for the feedback about the age of your home and the temperature in the morning. I was worried my home was leaking or something.

I guess dealing with a 60 something degree house will be the closest we will feel to "winter" in SD.

My house has been around 60 in the mornings lately. I'll use a space heater in the mornings when it drops to the low 50s. I live in a tiny wood-frame cottage built in 1920, so not a lot of insulation

I stopped using my heat several years ago when something fell down my floor grate. I guess that's why floor grates aren't standard anymore.

My 1940s home is currently about 65 in the morning. On the coldest winter days, I'll wake up to 58 degrees. I will then drink warm beverages to start my day and put on a sweatshirt. Today, I winterized my bed by adding a blanket putting on the flannel sheets.

I don't think I've turned on my heater in over three or four years. I love sleeping in colder temps. The only way I will turn it on is if I see my own breath or if my nostrils very are are cold, otherwise the entire family can just wears sweaters and long pants indoors.

Our house is a new build and is rather well insulated. It's usually 73 inside at night before bed, and 71 when we wake up.... ~30-ish degrees outside in the mornings.

Haven't needed the heater yet.

We've never used the heater. I like sleeping in a cold room and dislike the stuffy feeling of a closed-up, heated house. Of course if we lived elsewhere it would be a necessity, but we're perfectly fine using extra blankets at night and wearing sweatshirts during the day.

I think the coldest I've ever seen in the house was mid-50s, and that is pretty rare.

We've never used the heater in our place, we actually have to use our a/c year-round to keep it at 73 (or 78 in the summer). We live in a high-rise and well you know, heat rises.

Do you live in a high-rise in downtown SD? Can you say what building?

My wife and I are slowly retiring. It's sort of like a slow-motion trainwreck. We keep changing our minds. We considered living in downtown SD but we've never lived in any sort of condo. We liked Cityfront but I don't think I could live without a garage refrigerator or all my car tools or a fenced backyard. I shop at Costco. Where would I put all the over-sized multi-pack stuff?
