Hummingbirds in the spring. They cruise our yard in squadrons. They work our nectar-bearing flowers like a bumble bee.

Seagulls. If the trash truck drops something, the seagulls are all over it.

Crows (or some large black bird). They seem to fly over our 'hood looking for rodents.

Parrots. Some years are worse than others. The congregate in a high tree and just make a lot of noise.

92040 Lakeside
Hawks, lots of hawks. It's funny to see the smaller birds sometimes chase of the bigger scary looking hawks. I see this more often than you would expect.
Crows
Sparrows
Hummingbirds
The bunches of green parrots usually around this time of year.
There is even a big white owl I see often at night time.

I'm a bit out of the area in south OC (92688), but I like birds.

Right around my house:

Black phoebe
Mourning dove (they nest on my porch)
House finch (ditto)
Wrens
Crows, of course
Hummingbirds
Western Bluebird
Scrub jay
Barn owl (we hear them at night)
Mockingbird
Kingbirds
Oriole
Goldfinch
Robins, occasionally
Starlings
Grackles

In O'Neil Regional park, a few blocks away:

Roadrunner
Towhee
Acorn woodpecker
Quail (rarely)
Turkey vulture
Red-tail hawk
Kestrel
Cedar Waxwings, just passing through

At the lake:

Canada goose
Mallard
Coots
Widgeon, seasonally
Swallows
saw a pair of Golden Eagles there once
Egret
Night heron
Cormorants
Killdeer
Bufflehead, they are migratory but I am seeing them right now
Kingfisher, just once, about 10 years ago

I am probably forgetting some. There are more birds around here than most people realize.

Here is a good list. With so many different types of flora and habitat you can just go a mile and see all new birds.

There was a dead rat or something in one of my neighborhood, a few hours later we saw turkey vulture, we never saw them before. We have lots of hummingbirds though.

I think OB claims naming rights on those wild parrots ie. OB Parrots. Can you believe people are still shooting those parrots? OB Town Council offers a reward if you turn in the shooters.
