Since a couple of others mentioned more urban properties here is a Banker’s Hill example that kind of has that Old World Oakland Hills type of vibe. North of the flight pattern and a quick walk to Balboa Park, Hillcrest and Downtown, the location is good. As to the specific property not really sure of the layout/multiple unit aspect (I surmise it is one big house with a couple of smaller “suite” apartments) but it reflects the few Grande Dames that one can find in the area. Price reflects those extra units but it’s been of the market a while.

Here is another area that at least goes to your single level living as your age - a big ole MCM.
Not really my type of area, too removed from surrounding areas but is basically the only gated community in the central core of San Diego. We have some dear friends with kids who live around the corner in a house one might imagine the Brady Bunch building if they won the lottery in 1977, pretty cool estate to visit. Real close driving wise to anything in the city but otherwise removed, where walking opportunities are limited to your gated enclave.

Smaller, Mission Hills property, I think architect designed. Used to walk by it every day on my lunch power walk. Seems like it has a main level bedroom? Some might call it urban walkable but it’s a bit of a hike back up the hill from old town or anything in Mission Hills, otherwise great neighborhood of classic houses.

I’m much more of a center city kind of guy so others have your back and info on La Jolla northwards.

Exhibitionist designed? There's no way you can take a private shower in that third bathroom...
