Interestingly people including news media won’t bother differentiate the difference between sleet, Graupel, and hail. Hail only falls out of thunderstorms and have pretty jagged edges. And can occur even during summer.

I have folks from Kansas City nearby. They were here when we had our hail. They went outside and began laughing hysterically.

They shouted, "This isn't hail!" They said it reminded them of "wedding rice."

I told them, "That's hail, here."

They still stood by their statement, " LOL, this is hail?" LOL!

Suddenly, I felt so insignificant...

Plains hail comes down in between golf ball to baseball size some times. You car will have an interesting exterior. In Denver you had to be ready to race to some place that had an overhang like a drive in to save your car.

Sleet and black ice happens when it's freezing cold and hail when its warm and raining or about to rain. I forget what graupel is as I've only heard people use that term a handful of times
That's my story with out actually going to Wikipedia to look it up.
