I noticed quite a few ghetto types out in Hemet. Loud, crass, unruly, the whole nine. Shocked me like you wouldn't believe. They looked like the kind of people I'd see living directly on Skyline Drive.

As a youngster, I remember when Euclid Ave, along with Market St. and Imperial Ave. in SESD, was the center of the Black Community. These days, their presence is hardly even visible anymore. Like jksouthbay said, the black population in SD is slowly shrinking, at least according the the census. If you are ever in the area, make sure you check out Magnolia's on Euclid Ave - good stuff

Just curious.
Yeah pretty much.Housing is cheaper just about everywhere else(minus Hawai'i,Washington). Most of those other places seem to be more black friendly and black culture has grown in those areas whereas here it has shrunk over the last 15 years.Plus it seems that over time Southern California lost it's mass appeal towards AA's.I want to say something else but it is a little derogatory towards African Americans.

I expect that SD's declining real estate prices are fueling the "black flight" (so to speak) to other cities. The Euclid corridor (Chollas View, Emerald Hills, Lincoln Park, etc.) is being particularly hard-hit by plunging home prices. A number of recently-sold properties in those neighborhoods brought prices only in line with 2000-2001 valuations, even though those same properties were valued at (and sometimes sold for) $300K-400K in 2005-2006. In the face of such sharp declines, can anyone blame folks for wanting to hurry up and move to another city with cheaper (and more stable) home prices, especially if that city is more amenable to their culture and race/ethnicity?

The hip-hop sucks, 'nuf said.

But there's hope - big ups to DJ Kechup and Beehive for keeping things real.

I think of downtown San Diego, more towards the east side, having a large black population. Also, around College Grove Ave off the 94 freeway. Anywhere near the 94 freeway actually.

I noticed A LOT of black people when I was up in the Moreno Valley area (near Riverside) a while back. Perhaps those who want to stay in SoCal are fleeing up there because of slightly cheaper housing, etc. ??

Actually there are alot of older black families living DIRECTLY on Skyline Drive. Although some youngsters and hoodlums hang out on Skyline drive, they do not live there. Most of the people living on Skyline Drive are not ghetto and crass. Especially as you go east on Skyline into Lemon Grove it is more concentrated with Hispanics and Caucasians. So, your comment above does not reflect "the kind of people" that actually live there.
