Hi. I'm hoping some local San Diego residents might be able to give me some insight - especially if you've also spent time in Orange County and/or Long Beach.

I'm a single 30 yr old lesbian living in Lake Forest right now, and though there are lots of jobs I've found that it's basically impossible to find peers to socialize with. It seems like this area of SoCal is filled with families - I want to move somewhere with more dating prospects (and just in general more singles/couples without kids). Have some good friends who are straight married couples, but I'd like to branch out to ALSO hang with people who have similar interests/leading a similar lifestyle as well.

I'm thinking of moving more north to Long Beach or more south to San Diego. How is the job market in San Diego, in comparison to Lake Forest/Irvine? Is there a larger lesbian & gay community? Is the area as socially conservative as OC? Do you think the area caters significantly more to singles than where I live now?

For those who are familiar with both -- do you think I'd prefer Long Beach or San Diego?

Thanks for your help!!

Long Beach and SD are both good choices Both have pretty well-organized LGBT communities. Have heard that LB might be better for Lesbians, but don't know for sure. I know that the gals in SD tend to get together in their neighborhoods, not so much at clubs/ bars. My sis is gay, she likes to play Bingo @ The Center w/ friends, she belongs to several Lesbian Book Clubs, and she likes goin' to the Casinos with her friends. They are trying right now to get more "Girls Nights Out" going, one had a slogan, printed over a U-Haul- -"Meet her tonight, move her tomorrow!" It was funny Anyway, either area has lots of things to do- - Good Luck

Hillcrest has a big GLBT presence that I would think is comparable or bigger than Long Beach as Hillcrest is a very highly concentrated gay area. However I am not sure how it would compare to West Hollywood. LB is a bit more of an urban scene than San Diego so things are more diverse.

I am gay female and, although I do not live in the US, my partner currently lives in San Diego (South Park).

Therefore, I've been to San Diego 4 times, spending a total of 10 weeks or so, there in the past 18 months .... and return there for a short break in another two week's time.

Personally, I find San Diego to be very gay-friendly in a relaxed, easy-going way, esp Hillcrest and parts of North Park. Also some very good gay bars and clubs, although (like most places) they do tend to be more boy-oriented .... although I find that "straight" bars and restaurants are usually very accepting too.

Have been to Long Beach and LA on a number of occasions but prefer San Diego.
