You are correct in that UCSD has the better overall reputation but SDSU has an excellent business school. However, UCSD has both highly ranked int'l studies and economics programs. I prefer UCSD but of course it's your decision to make.

UCSD, assuming you can even get in ... UC system is quite selective, it's supposed to admit only the top 12% of all high school graduates. Even GATE is no guarantee of success.

Like esmith said, your test scores as well as your GPA might make the decidsion for you and you are right about the 2 schools. Yes, SDSU has an excellent business school, but overall UCSD is rated higher. You can't go wrong with either.

Actually, THE best undergrad business school in San Diego County is USD. In the BusinessWeek ranking, USD is #29 nationwide and SDSU is not even in the top 100. (And UCSD does not have a dedicated undergrad business program, so it's not on the list, either.)
But USD costs a LOT of money. If money is a concern, and, since stated major is more economics than business, I'd shoot for UCSD.

Reputation and networks matter in business. UCSD will open more doors and has a stronger reputation nationally. Another higher tier business school would be USC, just up the coast.

I would go UCSD in a heartbeat. Many majors at SDSU take at least 5 years to complete because they are so full.

I would go hang out on both campuses before you make a decision... Walk around, eat on campus, shop in the bookstore, go check out the library. Check out your fellow students! College is not just about your major, it's so much more!

Great suggestion. I think too many people play the snob game and don't realize there is a lot to be considered when choosing a univeristy or choosing anything for that matter. What might be right for one person is totally wrong for another.
I noticed someone suggested USC, there is the perfect example: of course USC is a great school, but not every family can handle the tuition and some kids prefer a smaller town, maybe a safer enviornment, etc.
