I will start out in a hotel in mission valley that I already paid for for 2 weeks and just go from there.Adventure time!
There are some local campgrounds to fall back on. Good luck.

Good suggestion! There is always that, although they often have a limit to how many days you can stay. Of course you can always rotate campgrounds and this is the perfect place to camp all year.

I am not sure what these campgrounds are. Is it what they sound like, basically "roughing" it? I think I would just stay in a hotel over that, but then again these campgrounds you're speaking of may be nice, I dont know. I have saved for this SD relo for about 3 years now, so I have cash set aside for this, so money not so much of an object. However, I just didnt want to spend north of 2k per month for a hotel or temp situation. My main objective is to get settled in an apartment so I can concentrate on getting a job without worrying about transient living conditions. Maybe condo owners would be more willing to work with me since I can give them 4 - 6 months rent up front. What do you all think? Thanks a lot.

Do you mind me asking how much you have saved up? I am in a similar predicament, but I am not moving until August. I have put up a few posts on this site and people are basically (and literally) telling me not to move because I dont not have enough cash ($18,000) and I do not have a job lined up yet. I am planning on moving into the La Mirage aprtments. Google them. They are absolutly amazing. 7 pools, 5 hot tubs 4 tennis courts, over looking the Chargers staduim etc etc etc.

Have you actually talked to the leasing agents to see if you meet the requirements to rent there? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious because it's a huge management company.

I have 50k put aside for relo, not counting 25k i have put aside for a car so i wont have a car payment. I also paid off all credit cards first. I think this may be a little too much, but i'm just being careful.
About 10 or so years ago, i moved to CA with waaaay less than 18,000 and it was tough, but I made it. So will you. 18,000$ is not a lot for SD, but if you're careful you should be OK. Also, I think you should look at other places than La Mirage...that 18k will go fast if you live there.

The job thing is an issue too...18k should see you through 6 months or thereabouts ... hopefully the job mkt is better by then but all indications say it will not be.
