Your funny mayne

Well Diego doesn't really have much of good BBQ offerings. I remember this place called Julian's in El Cajon, MAN did they cook up some bomb ribs and BBQ chicken! But sadly the place closed down like 5 years ago. It was in a hole in the wall in a bad location off 2nd st, so the owner hardly ever got any business.

But anyways, this place was hands down the best BBQ I have ever tasted, it had a southern flavor to everything, "pops" was his name would grill and cook all the food, so you never left unsatisfied because the man behind the grill was always there cooking your meal...nobody else, but him. He was from Louisiana, so he knew what he was doing.

Ever since Julian's shut down, everywhere else I've been for BBQ has left me frustrated, because I can't find the same tasting ribs anywhere in SD, or close to it.

We have more of a "Westcoast" BBQ style which in my opinion sucks! The texture and flavor of the BBQ sauces are weak and non spicy, and the ribs are almost baked like, and not really grilled like they're supposed to be.

Most of these "Westcoast" BBQ style owners are California white dudes, that truly know absolutely nothing about real BBQ.

There's a place called Huffmans BBQ in Lincoln Park off Imperial Ave, it's on the corner across from Green Cat Liquor, they make some pretty good BBQ, it aint Julian's but close. There used to be another BBQ place over in Lemon Grove, off Lemon Grove Ave, but unfortunately the place closed down, and the whole area got demolished, now there's a huge empty lot that's been sitting like that for over 3 years, WTF?

One last place I can think of, which is pretty decent, is "Fix Me A Plate Cafe", this place really has a New Orleans vibe in the restaurant, the food is good too. I believe it's located in La Mesa, or El Cajon off Parkway Dr in a shopping center, the cross street is Dallas st.

You should try these place out Blakaz, I know there's more BBQ restaurants around, maybe some other people can chime in.

Hey even though I'm Mexican, I love me some good soul food from time to time

I don't know anything about soul food but as far as BBQ goes I really liked Henry's BBQ on Market Street. When I was there many years ago all they had was pulled pork and brisket on a bun, but real tasty.
