Hmm, I guess you're right. I just tried call them and got a message that "this number has been disconnected".

Yeah they are gone. Word is they lost the mission boulevard location because they went on vacation and then forgot to renew the lease ... oops! Alpine location lasted all of 3 months. It's a shame, really.

i guess Liers out of question then, Hodad was ok!, Rockies was ok! too but both had too thick layer of onion and toppings and it took out the whole taste of the burger, found Hodad's fries greasy but rockies did well on the fries, very fresh. to be honest with all of you, so far i gotta agree with some here for In & Out, although it's a fast food, but tasted really fresh.
coming from a culinary back ground, here how i describe a perfect burger, fresh meet (size matters minimum 1/2 pound), not frozen, hint of onion and garlic mixed with herbs, grilled juicy to Med well, not dried so that the juice of the meet permeate in the fresh toasted bun served with proper stack of onion, tomato with some choice of specialty sauce and topping to your liking, ie: mushroom, bacon, cheese, guaco, grilled paper and .... side of fresh cut well seasoned fries. Help me find the best place in SD, we haven't ruled out Rockies or Hodad's yet just in case, ...

If you come from a culinary background how can you say that medium well burgers are the best?

I am an executive chef in Alaska during the summer months and when I want a great burger and fries it is done at home.

I can do it up faster and better than any restaurant and in shorter time than it would take me to drive there, make my order, wait for my food, eat, pay, tip, and then drive back.

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the opinion, the way of the burger cooked is absolutely consumer's choice, i said Med well for it's health and safety issues but certainly can be done to anyone's taste buds. You're right, home cooked burger's are saving cost and more tasty, but once in awhile i believe in spreading and circulating money in the economy. for that reason we are in search of the best place to enjoy ourselves.

I prefer mine rare with medium rare the absolute upper limit. That's why it is so important to use high quality meat. As an added bonus if you use fresh free range grass fed beef (as most upper end burgers use) then cooking it rare makes sure it doesn't dry out since grass fed beef has less fat.

For the vegetarians out there I recommend the burgers at VegnOut in North Park on 30th. I love the burgers, not the homefries. After one try at the homefries I decided to go with the side salad in the future.

In-n-Out for drive-thru. Hamburger Mary's in Hillcrest, and McP's on Orange in Coronado.
