Where in the world is everyone going on Fridays? Wait, let me say all weekend? It seems every weekend the 5 south is bumper to bumper while 5 north is moving along. I thoght maybe a lot of people might go to San Diego from LA for the weekend, maybe some people go to Mexico but I am not sure? Anyone know where people are all going?

Most of them are visiting San Diego from LA and Orange County.

Tourists visiting Seaworld, the zoo, and our beaches. Also, Mexicans going home for the weekend.

The 15 is also busiest on Fridays. Northbound seems to be the worst. Probably people going to Vegas for the weekend.

People coming to San Diego, Mexico, even Arizona via the 8 have to pass through town. In the summer, it's bad. It's not so much of an issue the rest of the year. After Labor Day, you'll see a decrease.

I actually think it's worse on Thursdays, like right now at 5p, it's gonna take me at least an hour probably to get from Cannon Rd to Pacific Beach.

And yes it does get better after Labor Day thankfully.

Somehow, I went absolutely insane and agreed to drive the family (me, wife, 5 yr old, 2 yr old) up to Orange County (Fullerton) tomorrow around lunch. Anyone want to place bets on how long it will take us? The over/under is 2 hours.
Who knows? Maybe we'll be early enough to beat the bad traffic. But then again, maybe not.

I've never really had a problem getting up to OC or even LA on weekend days.

You're only going to Fullerton and you are going after rush hour but before noon, you should be fine. South OC traffic is not bad at all except Laguna Niguel at rush hour, you won't hit traffic until you get up 405 by Garden Grove or 5 at LA County line. Southbound is much worse.

I hope you're right. Yeah, once you run the gauntlet that is the 5-55-57-22-91 freeways, you're home free in the OC. God they have a lot of freeways up there. Sometimes I forget until you list them all out like that!
