I want to know what kind of salary or income is needed to survive in San Diego. I am an educator and military veteran with 2 graduate degrees and experience. Surely I should be able to survive in SD. After living in Memphis, TN for the past 8 years I am ready to move. I can't take one more country fair or breaking news about corruption in city government. The people here are ridiculous. I also think my New York accent is not welcome. The only friends I have are my writers group. We moved here for my husband's job and now we're divorced. I think San Diego is calling.

As an out-of-stater, I was repeatedly warned that the SD gov't is terribly inept and inefficient. The city produces lots of capital from taxes and fees, but wastes it in corrupt contracts and paying "preferred provider" companies. The city officials squandered all past revenue money away in bad investments and "gambled" on the future of SD. On the bright side, they (officials) still keep their 6-digit pay. Sorta wish their salary should be based on their performance, unlike our US banks.

But guess what, I'm still moving to SD, at least till I'm broke.

Plenty of corruption here, so chalk off South Florida from the list. Plenty of New Yorkers here though, you may like it.

I don't really think that saying "nothing is bad in SD" can be considered to show ignorance per se. I think probably what the poster meant was that basically nothing is bad in San Diego compared to many other cities.

Now, personally, I think everywhere has it's faults and advantages, so I don't know if I feel that the statement was accurate, but I can't see it as being categorized as ignorant.

San Diego is a very nice place especially if you are into the outdoors. It has the most perfect climate of any city in the U.S. although I personally think I would miss seasons.

But in my lifelong home city's defense to say the people here in Memphis are ridiculous is insulting. You will find good and bad people in every city. Just so no one gets the wrong idea, I know plenty of people here with New York accents and they get along just fine.

Too many country fairs? Even if that was true, why is that a problem? I haven't been to a fair in 22 years. If you don't like fairs, don't go.

It is your life and if you aren't happy in Memphis, by all means you should live someplace else. But you should probably go back to New York. Obviously, San Diego is a very different kind of city than Memphis, Tennessee but San Diego's laid back surfer culture probably wouldn't suit you.
