Before we can help you out, we need a guage of your familiarity with Mexico in general and TJ specifically. Even by Mexico standards, Tijuana is one of the poorest, most crime-ridden cities in that country.

Where did you get that disturbing heap of misinformation from? Obviously you've never been there nor other places in mexico if you're going to say a rediculous statlement like that. Tijuana has better highways than most American cities, it even has a loewe's, Tijuana is NOT the poorest city in Mexico, it's probably among the richest actually. and for sure the safest of all of the border towns. Get the facts before you speak out of ignorance.

I have never seen a Lowe's in Tijuana. There are ,however, a couple of Home Depot's in TJ, if I am wrong let me know where it is located .

Tijuana is geographically blessed to be located next to San Diego and Southern California, one of the richest regions in the United States, and as a result Tijuana is also very prosperous. If you want poor, I suppose you could visit Chiapas in Southern Mexico, but I can't speak to that personally as I have never been there... but I have been to Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Piedras Negras, all of which are along the Texas border with Mexico and adjacent to some of the least prosperous areas in the US. If you want poor, those places make TJ look like Paris to be honest. Its not just Californians pumping money in TJ, but rather savy business people who have managed to figure out how to leverage being in on such a prosperous region and make it work.

Here is a short video of gringos in TJ. The first guy is the leader of the Turista Libre tours others have talked about on this forum. Saludos.

There's a Home Depot on Via Rapida in Tijuana. There's also a Costco, Commerical Mexicana (similar to a Costco), and Waldos, which is a dollar store, like the 99 Cent Only Stores. A lot of their merchandise is the same brands, and they carry the same kind of stuff. They have more stores in Tijuana than anywhere else.
