i'm not from the west coast so i don't know how it is decided what school your children go to.
and i was wondering how it works, because i've heard of kids going to schools kind of far from when they actually live...

so for example, could you request your child go to point loma high because you work in the area and can bring them to school everyday even though you live in la mesa???

The school districts go by boundaries. You can check your boundary on the San Diego Unified School District website to see what school of residence you're in. If you don't live in the SDUSD district, you have to get aapproval from the principal of the school that you student would go to in that area. If you want your child to go to a different school within the SDUSD, you have to fill out a Choice application (also available on the website).

They're only accepted during certain times of the year, and neighborhood students have first priority with enrollment. There also has to be room in that particular grade. The schools here are not K-12, some of them are K-8, Dana Middle School is 5-6, the other middle schools are 6/7/8, and the high schools are 9-12.

There's lots and lots of paperwork involved.

$$$$ problems. You mean you haven't heard of their budget problems? It's common knowledge. I have friends that are losing their jobs, and others that are hoping that they can make it to the next "Golden Handshake."
