Again, what is this list of? It is not a complete list nor is it the top 10 bottom 10 list.

Just curious. I never knew Mountain House was considered Alameda County. That seems just bizarre.

I guess it is. Sort of.

Look at the list of cities in this county:

Alameda
Albany
Berkeley
Dublin
Emeryville
Fremont
Hayward
Livermore
Newark
Oakland
Piedmont
Pleasanton
San Leandro
Union City

Pretty interesting mix.

That's a 3.7% improvement. At this pace, Oakland will be in the 800s in 3 years. That's good progress. Oakland's scores were 603 in 2004.
Maybe, I wouldn't be so sure. While some schools, like charter schools do well in Oakland, other schools don't do so well. For instance,

In 2008 0% of 11th-grade students at EXCEL high school scored at proficient or advanced level in Mathematics, with 11% scoring at least proficient (0% advanced) in English. That was good for WORST in the state for 2008.

Also OUSD is facing a $29,000,000 budget deficit this year.

(unincorporated areas)

Although it is surprising a community as large as CV is unincorporated.

Excel High is a special case; it is a different sort of charter school: Oakland: EXCEL High School (http://www.msdf.org/success_stories/Archive/Oakland_EXCEL_High_School.aspx - broken link)

Progress there should be measured in improvements, not absolute performance since it is starting out (intentionally) with the most disadvantages students. It is hard to succeed in high school with out a proper foundations in the years leading up to high school.

Can you name one school district in the state without a budget deficit?

Oakland has been making progress during tough times, and should be applauded.

They enjoy lower tax rates being unincorporated and like it that way.

Yes, I still can't figure that out. But each have Planning and Redevelopment Individualized Plan, School Districts, and Housing Associations (SLZ). They are independent of the city they are most closely associated with (Sunol = Pleasanton, Castro Valley = Hayward, San Lorenzo = San Leandro).

They were listed as schools districts anyway. I thought they should get recognition. Poor Sunol is so small they don't have a HS though.
