Hi! I live in Austin but am coming to SF for a special weekend with my husband in Oct. I know I can search Yelp, Zagat, et al but if you were spending a special weekend from out of town, where would you go for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner? The other thing to note is that while I eat anything, my hubby doesn't like a lot of things - so although I get to go where I want in Austin, I'd like to humor him and not go out for sushi, thai, or anything too, too foodie that will weird him out. ALSO, I know it's kind of cheesy, but I love VERTIGO and would love to see it in a real theater while there. Does anyone know of a place that shows it regularly? Thanks!

I meant, I know it's kind of cheesy to go see it just because we're in SF, not that it's a cheesy movie. Never!

I often refer to this site for great restaurants--you can even look by cuisine (so your husband won't be surprised with something out of his comfort zone!) Top 100 Restaurants San Francisco Bay Area

As for Vertigo..looks like you're in luck! I just spotted this in today's paper! 'Vertigo': Marathon screening in Castro - SFGate

Wow, you really are in luck, this is one of the most beautiful theaters I've been to. GO!

Thanks! I think though, that the screenings end before we get to SF, in mid-October. Darn!!

Ahhh, too bad. At least you will still be able to check out some of the cool places that are shown in the movie --like Fort Point (free!) and The Legion of Honor--both very scenic and worth checking out!

And Mission Dolores. I can't remember if the Mark Hopkins Hotel is in the film also.

For dinner, you might like a restaurant called Foreign Cinema. Check out their menu online (it might be too "foodie" for your husband).

Foreign Cinema in the Mission is a great suggestion. The area can be a bit dicey so it may be worth the cab ride.

Try Sam's downtown for good old-fashioned San Francisco food. Here's a link for Vertigo film locations in San Francisco:http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/v/vertigo_1.html. You'll see that the Empire Hotel, where Judy was living, is now Hotel Vertigo.
