Calistoga (Napa, Sonoma: vacation home, employment, to buy)

can someone give me insight into the positives and negatives of calistoga?

we are looking to buy a home in calistoga and noticed its more affordable than some other, more popular areas, but did not know much about it versus other parts of napa and sonoma.

could you please give me insight into the following?


* calistoga vs. other parts of napa
* calistoga vs other parts of sonoma
* full time residence versus vacation home
* currrent value versus potential value

Calistoga is not sensible as a primary home unless you are retired or have a local employment situation. It is too remote.
Sonoma County is very diversifed, but Calistoga and most of Napa Valley have 2 main focal points (1) the wine industry, and (2) tourism. That is it.
Community facilities and schools are very likely marginal.
Values: hard to tell. Most properties are still terribly overpriced (yes, even here) but some softening is seen. You'll have to do more detailed research. And it will depend a great deal on what you purchase -- location and quality.
