My wife accepted a position in Napa (Jan 15) and we will be relocating from Milwaukee. I am looking for a job (fingers crossed on one I interviewed for in SF). I am wondering what advice anyone can give on a place to buy. We are looking for a 3 BR 2 BA with good schools etc. that everyone else is looking for. Around $350K. We have heard good things about Benicia and have been told stay away from Vallejo. What is the commute like into/out of Benicia to SF? Any other areas that maybe be about halfway between Napa and SF we should consider?

Any advice would be welcome

Benicia is fine if you don't mind the oil refinery just outside town and the other refinery across the river in Martinez. That can be a deal breaker for some people.

Cordelia is a good small area. Nice big homes good shopping very good school lots of diversity.... 20 minutes to Napa and hour from San Francisco ....Andit puts you right in between S.F. and Sacramento ....

Pinole, El Sobrante, or Hercules maybe. That would put you south of the bridge. Going a little north to Fairfield or Suisun City is cheaper, but that is about 15 miles north of Vallejo.

Where in Napa? Downtown? Where in SF? You may also want to consider the city of Sonoma and maybe Novato. It will be hard to find a decent house for that price.
