BART in 1992 looked at expanding BART in western Contra Costa County and perhaps eventually reaching Vallejo. The system would have been extended from its terminus at Richmond for about 11 miles through Hercules and Pinole to Crockett, then cross over the Carquinez Strait at the Carquinez Bridge.

A study by Korve Engineering said reaching Crockett would cost more than $1 billion. Crossing the Carquinez Strait to Vallejo would cost $200 million, not counting the price for a new bridge.

It’s unclear what the cost would be today. But, as a general figure, BART spokes woman Luna Salaver said that new BART lines cost $120 to $180 million per mile.
Cost to get to Vacaville CA: At least $5-$9 billion based on a 50 mile distance.

Cost to cross the Carquinez: $200 million and it doesn't include the bridge cost itself!!! Seeing as how the new suspension bridge cost $240,000,000 in 2003 dollars, its going to cost around $310 to $340 million in 2013 dollars.

That's OVER $9 billion right there just for the track! Adding in the cost of multiple stations, trains, and infrastructure... I could see this being a $10 billion project.

As I thought, it's your own personal cost estimation and not an OFFICIAL one.

Right now the projected costs of that Solano County line is ZERO since there are ZERO plans to actually consider it.

To be fair, the USPS has been crippled with a Congressional law passed in 2006 that requires them to fund 75 years of pensions in 10 years. No other organization, public or private, is required to do that. That has forced them to bleed red ink in recent years. If that requirement wasn't in place, the USPS would be profitable.

What's BART's excuse?

Well, did you expect it to be free? Plus if they are going to bore a tube that cost might be justified, I think a bridge running alongside the Carquinez Bridge might be cooler.

Where are they going to get the money from? Solano County is poor.

It doesn't get as much welfare as other systems like LA.

So I'm guessing no one is going to answer this question? Thought so.
