I've actually seen Melbourne compared even more. I've never been, but that must be the urban aspect of it because SF isn't flat with a river running through it.

Bologna, Italy in terms of the architecture and the cultural vibe in some parts of the city. And some parts of Rome & Florence reminded me of SF - the open markets and genuine, down to earth people made me think of the Ferry Buildings and SF's summer street fairs for some reason.

But it's really not the same. No comparison.

San Francisco is one of a kind as are most cities in the world.

There is beauty everywhere.

Default Like SF?

Some people think Portland, Oregon resembles SF on a smaller scale. Maybe. I don't really think so.

DC!? sorry to bring it up again but I still cant stop laughing. Maybe it compares traffic wise , cultural diversity wise and price wise, but so does NYC and most other huge cities.
If your talking about "vibe" however...
Well, how about you tell us. In which characteristic is this city supposed to resemble SF? And which part of SF?
I dont mean to sound like a jerk by the way, just trying to clear up the question.

DC....still laughing! thanks.

In terms of its appearance, SF resembles Sydney as others have noted. Another city not mentioned is Capetown, SA, which in terms of its appearance also resembles SF.

Parts of San Francisco remind me of Vancouver...however SF has an edgier grittier feel to it. In Canada, Vancouver is referred to as "the San Francisco of Canada" but that has more to do with our large homeless population and the perception of other Canadians that Vancouver is radically left wing. I don't think that Vancouver is that much colder than SF. Last June I left the sun here and dealt with cold and rain for a week there.
