My wife and I may be moving up to the Palo Alto area to attend classes at Stanford. We are looking for cheap apartments that are pet friendly (small dog) within reasonable driving distance of the University. Need suggestions and PLEASE not in the ghetto!
Thank you

Good luck and let us know if you find any!!

In all seriousness, pick 2/4 and call it a day.

Can you get student housing? I don't know about their dog policy, but that may be your best bet to find close, safe, reasonably-affordable housing.

I seriously doubt it. We're in our mid 30s.
How about across the bridge? Newark, Fremont or Union City..
How are those areas?

They're okay. Your best bet is to use Craigslist to see what you can afford, since you didn't say.

Don't even consider East Palo Alto. Other areas will probably be fine. Once you pick one you would consider, ask again.

There are a couple tools that I find useful, however most people do not seem capable of using them.

1. This site called c.r.a.i.g.s.l.i.s.t
2. This wonderful engine called g.o.o.g.l.e

To answer your other question Fremont>Newark>union city>hayward in that order IMO. Commute shouldn't be too bad.

Already used both of those tools. No need to be a smart alec. I'm looking for opinions on decent areas from PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE AREA. The two previously mentioned tools don't provide that my friend.
The last part of your post was helpful though, so thanks for that

I'd be shocked if student housing had any age-based eligibility (other than a minimum age limit). Now, whether you'd want to live with a bunch of younger students is a different question. But note that there is specific student housing for married couples: Housing Options | Student Housing

This too: Off-campus Subsidized Apartments | Student Housing

But when are you starting school? The school year has almost begun and housing application deadlines have probably already passed.

That's not what you said in your original post. So don't get your panties in a bunch. If you HAD said that, you'd have gotten a different response, most likely.
