Laid back. Most of the city, nope. A few spots still are though. The outer sunset is probably the most laid back from what I've experienced, and I'm quite tempted to move back out there. Probably the last pocket of "normal" people left.

Friendly. On occasion, but pretty superficial and definitely temporary. No one makes eye contact on the streets, says hi or smiles. Simple politeness like this is normal back in Texas, and it is literally shocking when someone is polite while walking around the city. I went on a four hour walk through a large region of the city today and can count the number of times someone made eye contact with me on one hand.
In complete honesty, my experience here has been the opposite since the late 1960's, and still is. I spent today at Golden Gate Park walking through first the Botanical Gardens, and then after a lunch I walked around the lake (Stowe). Plenty of smiles, nods, and hellos. Always been this way for me. Maybe the expression on my own face? Furthermore, I never have been hassled by homeless people anywhere. Not even on Market St. Or Van Ness. Must be a reason. I do get some nods and "what's up?" and smiles from homeless. Again, must be a reason. And no, I don't dress in rags.

As for laid back - heh, well, I am that. And maybe that's the reason various people smile and nod and strike up conversations with me. Anybody can be laid back. Anytime. That's a personal journey, not something that's bestowed on you by outside forces.

Go figure.

Not a bad day in the park. If this is crazy, sign me up for another day of it tmw.

San Francisco weather is terrible in the summer if your definition of summer means you need tonwear shorts. It is not that the weather is awful, it is that summer weatger is so not like summer, particularly in SF. Summer is the foggiest season and surprisingly chilly. Although this year was quite warm.

The weather in SF plain out is terrible so if you want sunny and enjoyable weather with a true summer then don't come here.

Other than that I would say people for the most part are chill and friendly but you're going to get the entire spectrum of people in a city as diverse as SF so to give an overall generalization would be tough.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but many of the lifelong Bay Area/SF residents I've met have said the weather has gotten worse in SF over the years. They claim that it's gotten colder overall and that it used to be a lot warmer year round. I'm not sure if I believe it or not, but multiple people have said this to me. Is there any truth to this claim? I'm genuinely curious.

The weather in SF is pretty much as bad as it gets. I could not wait to move back to Fargo.

We have found it a great city to visit, but I am not sure I would want to live there. We lived in Marin county many years ago and couldn't wait to get transferred back to Los Angeles.

As for sunny, well, it depends, when the fog clears away it can be very nice but still damp. It is certainly nicer than Boston in the winter.

Some say, the friendliness is superficial; isn't this true in most places.

I do think San Francisco is an exciting place, but no one can judge how it would for you and no place is utopia.

I've heard the exact opposite from locals who have lived here for 40+ years. The weather is warmer and sunnier now than in decades past. And much less fog.
