have you checked out glassdoor for reviews? You can filter for locations and such; i've found it to be pretty useful. Also try posting on the work forum under CD general

+1 for Glassdoor, I've been using them to get an idea of what to expect as far as knowledge. Also gives good insight into the work culture that is there.

It is who you know somewhat. A friend was hired over a year ago and now they got another friend hired at you tube.
They have bikes and stupid glasses etc... They have secret buses that meet at certain parking lots and pick you up and you can work on the way to your job with their wifi.

The reason Google gives you all that access and free "Fun Environment" stuff AT work is because you're entire life will be AT work. Several of my employee's left to go work for them as contractors and were miserable, even though they were making 2-300K annually. They never had a day off work. Nights, Weekends, etc. Work Work Work Work Work. But hey they got to play ping pong in the lounge.

My brother works at the Google Irvine office. My impression is that the benefits are great but it isn't easy to get a job with Google in general.

That's all very true. My fiancé was there as a contractor some years back. IMO anyways it's like bees and a hive, where they work, live, eat and maybe in some cases even die. To really make it as a "googler" you have to make it basically your only purpose in life.

I disagree.. I see this parent all the time at school events still. They are not AS active as before, but still around quite often.
