Exactly! We'd still have slavery if we allowed voters to have a say in it.

People vote to protect their own self interests even when it doesn't benefit society as a whole. Giving everyone affordable housing close to their jobs benefits society as a whole but current homeowners will never vote for it. That's why they shouldn't get to vote on it.

In theory, if each condo is 1000 square feet, you should be able to fit two on each story of a five story building on such a lot.

Remember that increased housing inside of the city limits would have to be denser housing, in other words, not SFHs.

By building straight up with 10 stories and no yard/setback. Besides, most 1950's-1970's tract home lots around here are at least 5,000 sq. ft.

I'm all for denser housing.

I guess I could live there if I didn't breath. I'd probably run out of oxygen after a few minutes

Well that would save everyone a lot of headache I imagine.

Exactly. This kind of thing is the future. They need to build a lot of these, so more people could own rather than having to rent. Although personally I'm fine with renting, I can see the advantages of buying if it is in your budget.

Of course, a lot of people on this board would say "oh that's not livable because it is not a SFH!".

People have to realize, though, that for a given land area, you can only build X number of single family homes. Eventually you have to build denser as people keep moving in. Then the SFHs will be a lot more expensive and the condos will get cheaper and cheaper.

No, you wouldn't. People pay tens of millions of dollars for penthouse apartments on the 50th floor of condo buildings in New York and in many other cities around the world and they all breathe just fine.

Indeed. SJ hasn't gotten there yet but the top floor penthouse at 88 West San Fernando sold for 2.2 million dollars a few years ago and it only has two bedrooms.
