I can symp with waveX, it's a major downer to be profiled because of a bumper sticker! Give the dude a break, clongirl. He's not dissing you or the other fair citizens of the area, he's just saying he was bummed by the cops giving him a hard time. Nobody should have to deal with that on a chronic basis. Dude did the right thing, he split for more mellow climes. If you ever get stopped by cops for Driving While Asian, get back to us about how you felt about it. Until then, sayonara, zai jian, or just plain aloha, take your pick, and have a nice day. May discrimination never darken your path henceforth.
So hopefully anyone looking for CURRENT information by actual residents about the area should obviously not bother because...

Back in the 90's some cops pulled over guy with pro-gay rights stickers on his car...multiple times. Also, there are people that voted for Reagan here!!!

OMG...everyone that is socially progressive should run, not walk out of town!! It's just not safe. LOL

FYI...you're welcome to peruse the actual city-data site for some information on how this town actually voted in the last couple elections (70% Democrat). As more and more folks from the City/Oakland/Berkeley push out the older, more conservative demographic it changes over time. We also have a black mayor ...imagine that!

I'm continually amazed by how ignorant people on the other side of the tunnel are about Lamorinda and the 680 corridor. I guess anyplace that isn't some flaming liberal bastion of hypocrisy like Marin or Berekely must be anti-gay, anti-minority, and republican.

This area is majority democrat too but I guess since it doesn't have that 97% democrat/3% republican ratio that Berekely has it might as well be Alabama right? Ironic how some of the supposed diversity loving crowd can't stand actual diversity.

To be fair, that ignorance goes both ways. I had a conversation with a teacher from "Lamorinda" the other day and she kept referring to Oakland's schools as "flatland schools". She was shocked to find out that I willingly lived in West Oakland and that I actually enjoy it.

This is true, it def does go both ways and I won't deny that some people are ignorant of Oakland and the inner East Bay on this side of the tunnel. I am over-generalizing but the difference, to me at least, is people tend to be less concerned with portraying themselves as "open minded, tolerant, etc.." over here as some simply don't care or know that they aren't. People tend to stereotype and generalize no matter what their beliefs, ideology, etc..are.

here is a direct quote I heard the other day from a liberal that moved to Lafayette: "You know it's really nice there, but there was hardly any diversity(as if that is the ONLY thing that makes a great town), everyone looked like us and we blended right in... but we felt so out of place!?" We blended right in, yet felt so out of place... only a liberal can say two contradictory statements in one sentence, lol! Anyway, I am middle of the road politically and appreciate the great schools in Lafyette, friendly people(for the most part), safe and clean, and family oriented atmosphere. It's funny to me how so many self described "liberals" move to more conservative or conservative leaning towns for all the great things it has to offer, then bash what made it great to begin with!?? If you truly are as "open minded" to other people's point of view, please don't bash and lump all conservatives into one category, and try to look at the great things they do represent, there is a method to the misperceived madness!!!

The mayor of Orinda in 2009, Sue Severson, was a Prop 8 donor and actively campaigned for it. Despite that (or maybe because of it?), she was re-elected and reappointed mayor in 2014. I think that speaks for itself.

(For those who don't remember, Prop 8 was the anti gay marriage amendment that was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court).

I don't agree with her stance, but it doesn't tell the whole story re the political climate. IIRC, in 2012 Obama 'carried' Orinda with almost 70% of the vote.
