Hello All,

I know the traffic from Fairfax to the 101 can be brutal on those 1-2 lane roads, but how long has it been taking lately? I would like to move to Fairfax and commute to SF on the Larkspur Ferry. How long do you think it would take to get from central Fairfax to the Larkspur Ferry Building if I left my house at 7:30am? Thanks!

Just bumping this as I'd like to know the answer as well.

What I'd really like to know about is cycling from Fairfax to the Larkspur ferry (and back) - what are the roads and the traffic like for cyclists at commuting times? Are there cycle lanes or alternative routes? Lots of hills?

I'm going to guess, and it's just due to the time of day, but Sir Francis Drake is a busy road for sure, but I think by car it wouldn't take more than 15-20max minutes, with the worst part of the traffic being right around the entrance and exit ramps at the 101 there. I'd bet it's closer to 1 thought, but when it starts to flood in that area in the Winter time, it'll slow things down quite a bit as well. (The 101 floods at Lucky Drive right there)
As for biking, Sir Francis Drake is a pretty narrow road, there aren't really many defined bike lanes per se, but there are a lot of cyclists in the area, and many drivers are used to sort of sharing the road...I would drive by car it first to get a feel for it, especially during commute times, if you are worried about the safety of it.

Maybe you could check in with the folks over at Paradigm Bicycles in San Anselmo they may have a better idea, since they are right on the way to and from ...

I commuted into San Francisco both by ferry and car. It was an easy commute if I left by 7AM. I'd get to the office before it opened and have a cup and read the paper. There many backroads to get from Fairfax to the ferry terminal by bike but not by car. Traffic is routed onto Sir Francis Drake or into San Rafael through "the hub" if you travel by car.
