Don't know about that - our 2br house with yard and detatched studio runs only $1275/mo, and we're definitely not in a ghetto. A short walk from Santana Row, if that's one's pleasure. Like I've said before, look at Burbank. A house down the block just sold for $200,000.

If you are willing to commute focus on the East Bay.

Got it. Thanks for the feedback everyone. That gives me a better idea. Planning a recon mission in early March.

If you are into nature, I would suggest Berryessa in North San Jose, Almaden in South San Jose They are both close to foothill and to many parks and hiking trails. They are not as dense as Santana Row area. Also you can consider Los Gatos which has a very nice Vasona Park but it's not generally more expensive than San Jose.

Thumbs up My vote goes to Los Gatos

If you can find something affordable that you like there or near there, you may enjoy that area .

A 2BR house for $1275? That's a steal and not something anyone can count on. You can pay $1275 for a 1BR apt. (easily).

But I do agree with you about looking for a place like Burbank, which will be near the OP's workplace. Cummuting is the pits! Burbank isn't my favorite neighborhood, but if I worked near Santana Row, I would definitely give it a look.

Also just because a listing doesn't specifically state they accept pets it doesn't mean they won't. Especially if you find a listing that is listed by the owner. When I moved to Cupertino the listing didn't say it accepted dogs. However when I met with the owner he allowed me to bring my dog. I built report with him and put down a decent pet deposit. We had no problems.

When I lived in Sunnyvale in the late 90's, a 3 bedroom house would run close to 3K a month to rent. I don't think you will get something great at 1700 a month.
