Don't know if you are planning on staying here till the kids go to high school but just letting you know! Campbell is easy commute from here on hwy85. We have Whole Foods on almaden expwy and few spas and good gyms (AVAC for one) out here. We love staying close to moutains and going hiking almost every weekend!
Almaden Valley is very nice and it has good to very good schools, but it's definitely "bedroom community suburban" (although less ticky-tacky/McMansion-y than other affluent suburban neighborhoods in San Jose) whereas Los Gatos is suburban but it does have a downtown core (mostly boutique shops and salons). I think the OP would prefer Los Gatos if they can afford it.

Another option would be the Willow Glen area of San Jose. This neighborhood is not far from downtown SJ but it also not far from Campbell. It also has it's own cute little downtown. It's expensive like Los Gatos, but I think the schools might be dicey (elementary probably ok, but I'm not sure about high school). i don't have kids so I'm not sure if I'm totally correct on the schoos...but if I had to bet, I'd say the Los Gatos schools are better than the Willow Glen schools.

Willow Glen is fine for elementary, but beware WGHS...rough and tumble place.

I will echo everyone else here, Los Gatos would be a good fit... Great schools, around 4000 a month should get you a good rental, yoga and cute stores downtown--much less cookie cutter than nearby towns.
