While visiting my sister at Valley Medical Center we discovered a great place on the Alameda near Naglee called Wrap This! Fantastic gyros and plates and they're open till 11pm. We went back the second night and ordered the same thing. Can't have a higher reccomendation than that.

No one has mentioned this, but I think this place is pretty good: Nick the Greek on Santa Clara a short distance from San Pedro Square.

I love Good Karma Vegan Cafe, in Downtown San Jose. Really cheap, delicious, and has tables for sit down. I went there all the time when I worked in DT SJ, now I go back every time I'm in the area.

And there's always The Olde Spaghetti Factory for a reasonably priced chain. You can get their basic pasta dishes for under $10, which comes with bread, soup / salad, and ice cream.

I went to backayard. I was happy it wasn't crowded. Got there about 6 pm on a Sat and it was only 1/3 full. I got the chicken and pork combo. The rice which you get 2 scoops was really good.
