While visiting my sister at Valley Medical Center we discovered a great place on the Alameda near Naglee called Wrap This! Fantastic gyros and plates and they're open till 11pm. We went back the second night and ordered the same thing. Can't have a higher reccomendation than that. http://www.wrap-this.com/‎.

No one has mentioned this, but I think this place is pretty good: Nick the Greek on Santa Clara a short distance from San Pedro Square.

Great mention! Also to boot, Nick stays open until 2AM on Thurs, Fri, and Sat.

I love Good Karma Vegan Cafe, in Downtown San Jose. Really cheap, delicious, and has tables for sit down. I went there all the time when I worked in DT SJ, now I go back every time I'm in the area. San Jose Craft Beer on Tap | Good Karma Vegan Cafe | San Jose Craft Beer on Tap

And there's always The Olde Spaghetti Factory for a reasonably priced chain. You can get their basic pasta dishes for under $10, which comes with bread, soup / salad, and ice cream. http://www.osf.com/pdf/menus/SanJose.pdf

I went to backayard. I was happy it wasn't crowded. Got there about 6 pm on a Sat and it was only 1/3 full. I got the chicken and pork combo. The rice which you get 2 scoops was really good. The meats were very tasty. It has hi ratings on yelp and it is well deserved. I would definitely go there again. The Jerk chicken platter is really reasonable at $9.75.
When I was a kid my mom made oxtail and I really hated it. But the reviewers on yelp all liked the oxtail here so I will have to try it.
Thumbs up for Bobby on the recommendation plus the parking tip.

I walked around and saw the Public Market. Anyone have any favorites there?

Oh, since they brought back the Chili Cheese Burrito...

...and the ones on Bascom Ave. are good too.

But if you want the local version:

which is well worth it (also on Bascom)

Chef Xiu (855 W El Camino Real, Mountain View) changed owners and chefs, and then seriously sucked big time - and now has closed.

Rose Doughnuts and "Bill of Fare" have both moved (although both are still on Saratoga, and Bill of Fare is basically 100 feet away from where it was).

From my earlier post :

**** Rose Doughnuts: (breakfast / lunch) : sandwiches, burgers, eggs
994 Saratoga Avenue (Saratoga @ Williams), San Jose

Like a 60's style roadside burger joint. Burger & fries w/ drink "meal" for under $7. Also, their breakfast burritos are to die for. Only for breakfast or lunch. Closes at ?4:30 PM?

**** Bill of Fare : (breakfast/lunch) sandwiches, burgers, eggs
1069 Saratoga Ave (Saratoga just S of Williams), San Jose

Closes at ?2:30 PM? A fantastic place for breakfast/lunch. They serve breakfast stuff until they close (eggs, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, etc.) as well as sandwiches.

Bills Cafe...long wait, but it's a solid meal. Multiple locations now. Only open for lunch.
Another lunch place is California Sourdough on Brokaw/Oakland which is a great little sandwich place.

Hue's Restaurant near Capital and Silver Creek is a great one for Viet Mi Quang.

If you like DiMaggio's you may want to try Colosseum, which I prefer. Call the order in ahead though.
