I'm interested in buying a condo or a house in Santa Fe possibly next year. I wondered about Eldorado. How far is it to Santa Fe? What businesses are located there (market, basic services, etc)? Would it be better to live in Santa Fe proper? I know that you get more for your money in Eldorado. Pros and cons of living in Santa Fe? Pros and cons of living in Eldorado? Please give me your thoughts!

Eldorado at Santa Fe, NM is more or less about 12 miles from Santa Fe.
I do not know the area very well, just driven through... I live in the Albuquerque area.
Santa Fe is the city. Eldorado is the country. Santa Fe is traffic, noise, shops and people. Eldorado is dirt roads, solitude, a small market, coyotes, snakes and rabbits abound.
There are paved roads in Eldorado, a nice pizza place, a coffee shop, a restaurant, hardware store and a beer bar. Yes, not Santa Fe, but neither does it want to be.
Does Eldorado have many retired people from different ares or States? I look and drove through the area many times and we are looking at retiring. Husband retires today actually. I really do not want to be in an area with lots children and I suspect Eldorado does.
Eldorado has many retired people from different states. There are not that many children. I went door to door out there this fall doing some political work, and the average age of the community seems to be about 55-60. Having said that, I think it goes neighborhood to neighborhood, and some streets may teem with children, while others have none. I think you just have to make sure you visit the potential street you are going to live on during a Saturday afternoon when children may be visible. Look for the telltale signs, minivans, soccer balls, bicycles, swingsets to avoid the dreaded urchins.
