Hey everyone,

Hope you are having a great weekend.

When we recently went up to Atlanta, we ate at this AMAZING neighborhood pub called Manchester Arms (if you are ever in ATL, try your darndest to get there!).

Best food we had in ATL, by far....and thanks to city-data Atlanta!

So, we are looking for something kinda similar here at home. Has anyone tried the food at Shakepeare's Pub?

Thanks for your advice,
Jason

Enjoyed Shakespeare's Pub. Was in mood for Shephard's Pie last weekend, so I gave it a try. Had a very good Almost SHephard's Pie. It was made with beef instead of lmab, but delicious.
And a terrific beer - they have a really good variety of beers.

Now that it has been brought up, with all of the Brits here in the area, I assume there is a solidly decent spot that does your cuisine correctly. Anyone know?

I have had a real hankering for a steak and kidney pie, of all things.

Heck, if the place is really good, I might even try the bangers and mash.

Wow, I'm starving all of a sudden.

Shocking, I know.

Funny goofy side note:

Due to the typo in the OP (lmab rather than lamb), I was confused and thought there was some strange and mysterious English ingredient with which I was not familiar. I thought perhaps it was some sort of a kofta or gyro-like meat, adopted into the cuisine due to the Indian and Pakistani influences found throughout your great land.

Glad that passed.

Anyway, someone tell me where we should go here for something approaching authentic, please. I will be sure not to order the lmab.

This isn't a restaurant per se, but it sounds interesting:

4 and 20 Pasty Company

Owned by a couple from London.

Cool! Thanks!

We will definitely check them out, and I'll report back.

well firstly with bangers and mash you need the proper sausages AND onion gravy.

steak and kidney pie doesnt do it for me -not a kidney man- BUT Steak and Ale pie mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Rushmore has anyone ever introduced you to Yorkshire puddings ??

Oh my, yes. Served with the roast at almost every holiday meal in Connecticut as I was growing up. It's just something that needs to be experienced, or people will just say "well, why not just pour gravy over a biscuit or a croissant?"

Also, of course the sausages and onion gravy have to be great for bangers and mash. I think one thing that would surprise most Europeans (OK, and Brits) is that most Americans have no clue what a "good sausage" is. It's not their fault; they just haven't ever been exposed to the craft. I think the only place in this country where people have any idea about sausage is the mid-west, and even those sausages aren't really what we're talking about.

I would welcome a recommendation for a solidly delicious English meal.

P.S. I think when talking about certain kinds of foods (sausages, pies, etc.), it's important to be open-minded about offal. I mean livers and kidneys (and sweetbreads and even brawn) are definitely delicious, healthy foods, and can assuredly be consumed comfortably when incorporated with other more traditional meats.

On the other hand, nothing in this world could make me try, taste, test, smell, consider or otherwise consume a BLACK PUDDING. No chance. I'd sooner go over to The Dark Side (aka "vegetarianism") than consume pig's blood wrapped up in pig's intestine. Nope.

mmm sausages.... my grandparents came to the US from Italy in the 40s and lived with us my whole childhood. My grandmother, of course, did everything from scratch and that included making sausage by hand. We stuffed the casing by hand with a small funnel and the meat had to be hand cut because my grandfather wouldn't eat ground meat! we always had sausage hanging in the boiler room to cure and other interesting things going on!

I was always her faithful assistant so I am the one that knows all those recipes that never get written down, where you just put in a little of this and some of that :P Every fall I get the urge to make sausage... I haven't done it since she's been gone though
