How ridiculous is this!
First of all, the washing started around midnight - lots of nearby residents are sleeping. The sound of the Compressors, etc. is much louder that any music that might be played in downtown - and the Noise Ordinance stops all of that after 11 PM. So it's OK for the city to make lots of noise at midnight, but not OK for musicians/restaurants?

And by having people do the washing on Xmas night, aren't they likely paying overtime, or extra pay for working on a holiday?

I don't get it.

I assume it was contracted out. I don't see the city paying overtime for that. I would have called the Police and complained. Noise is noise.

Police were there - a neighbor called.
THey showed up & did nothing.
I called police at 3 AM to see why the cop didn't stop it - I was told they had a Permit to do the work.

The noise lasted until about 5 AM. And now the street where they were washing is FILTHY.

Can't blame the Sarasota Police if they had a permit. My next stop would be to contact Comissisioner Caragiulo

Did just that - and Mayor Atwell.
Met with him when he was running last year - hopefully now that he's in office he'll be as responsive as when he was running.

I would be interested in hearing the response you get. Let us know what he / they have to say.

Did get a response from the Mayor's office. Sort Of.
She passed it on to the Parking Authority, and I got a response from them.
Unbelievable!
It said:"I have checked with all staff and the Parking Services Unit did not schedule or oversee any pressure cleaning in the Palm Avenue Garage on Christmas Day. If this was done it was done without our knowledge or participation. " He then went on to say that they certainly would never have scheduled anything for Christmas Day.

OK then - so who did this, and how did they get a Permit from the City if the City department responsible has no knowledge of this?

Hello Right Hand, meet the Left Hand.

I would go back to Mayor Atwell with the info you were provided. There would certainly be evidence of the power washing.
It all depends on how far you want to take it. Did the original caller actually meet with an officer? Get a name? Did you get a name of the person who said they had a permit? Where did they get said permit?
I never knew there was such a thing as a pressure cleaning permit. The mystery deepens.
