My wife and I want to spend a weekend in Sarasota for a quick little excursion out of Tampa. Not opposed to chains but prefer something with a great view of either downtown or the gulf (or both?) and a balcony. We both work stressful jobs and odd hours (I work evenings, she works nights) so the main goal is to stay somewhere with a view and in walking distance to nightlife. The main goal is to relax!

Figured I'd ask here before breaking out the google-fu.

Thanks in advance.

The Hyatt is a pretty good choice. It's right on the bay, just a few blocks north of downtown proper, a few blocks to the Ringling Bridge over to St. Armand's Lido Beach.

On the other side of 41 is the boutique Hotel Indigo, then on Ringling right downtown is another small boutique hotel called Hotel Ranola. Also, there is a Holiday Inn right on Lido across from the beach with great views and walking distance to St. Armands. All of these are great locations and easy to get anywhere in Sarasota in minutes. Of course if you got the bux you could stay at the Ritz-Carlton. Actually, they might have a special at this time of year, being past season. it would be a fantastic place to stay.

Hope this helps and enjoy your stay. It's a great time here now because weather is nice and the snowbirds are gone!

I really like both the Hyatt and Indigo, but it cannot rightly be said that they are in "walking distance to nightlife."

Grasshopper...google-fu!

Thanks gypsy. I like the idea of a nice boutique hotel. Something a little different.

You're welcome! Here is the link to website for the Ranola:

Hotel Ranola - A Boutique Hotel in Downtown Sarasota, Florida

It's basically right in downtown if you want to be able to walk to the nightlife. As rushmore pointed out, the other boutique hotel (Indigo) while not far from downtown, is several blocks north of Main St. Depends how much you want to walk.

Enjoy!
