I was surprised that they didn't mention one of the biggest events of the summer in Sarasota, the Sun Coast Super Boat Grand Prix races and the events leading up to race day.

Although some of the events require tickets (proceeds go to local charities), many of the activities are free.
Events start June 23rd and continue until the big fireworks display on the 4th of July. There's something for just about everyone: golf and fishing tournaments, a car show, poker tournament, fan fest, fashion show, power boat parade thru downtown Sarasota, several parties including a big block party downtown, motorcycle run, bikini contest, power boats by the bay display and on July 1st the big offshore super boat races. We try to hit as many of the events as we can fit in our schedule. We really enjoy Sarasota the week the super boats come to town.
