This is a very old thread, but for someone who has a decent game and lacks consistency - it's code for either - "doesn't practice" - or - "doesn't play very often". Either way they can probably improve on those things on their own with time, hard work and dedication, unless they are doing some things fundamentally wrong in the swing - then lessons are very much recommended.

Default How do I get contact information on Don

How do I get contact information on Don?

I have a GREAT guy who I really like named Don who I will refer if you PM me. Thing is, Don is an older guy, but really knows his stuff and is VERY easy-going. Some might think TOO easy-going. If your son in law would prefer more of a drill-instructor type, Don is not right for him. His rates are very reasonable, coming in less than pretty much anyone else at about $40 per half hour, but he sure doesn't have his eye on the clock, and I will often spend an hour with him and just give him $100, especially if I am feeling like I am making great progress. Don will do lessons anywhere between Bradenton and Venice, as far as I can tell, but I always meet him out at Serenoa Golf Course, which is a great spot for it because he has his own private area.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Holy Grail of golf lessons: Golf Tec. They have a facility in Golfsmith and another down the road a little off University. There will be esoteric talk of swing paths and flex points, and there will be lots of video instruction. This is as high tech as you can get, and it is very effective. The staff is friendly and nice and very efficient, and I would recommend them to anyone who can afford it.

It is expensive. You are in a sales environment at first. They will want to sell a large package, etc. One thing you can do is to send him in for a club fitting (driver or irons), or a swing evaluation. I would simply call Golf Tec and ask if they have any specials on either of these. They tend to, because it is how they get you in so they can sell you.

But again, they know their stuff, and there is no end to the technology they use.

Quite honestly, either of these would probably work fine. I don't think I would recommend the Golf Tec scenario to anyone over a 15 handicap, but I would send pretty much anyone to Don (as I know he has everyone from serious hacks to scratch golfers he instructs).

Don't hesitate to ask me anything else you'd like to know.

I don't have Don's contact info, but my father, my husband, and my son have all taken lessons from Peggy Kirsch, a teaching pro at Heron Creek in North Port. She is outstanding. My dad was a scratch golfer and is very particular and she helped his game a great deal. Her contact is:

Hope that is helpful!
