We recently moved to the area from Indianapolis and my wife is a nurse. She didn't use any 3rd part assistance and it only took her 3-4 weeks to get her license. She is RN, BSN, CCRN with 7 years adult ICU experience and 16 years experience as RRT. She actually got a raise coming to FL.

After 2 wks, I got an email yesterday that the FBI had rejected my fingerprints and that I will have to go back into the Livescan office and have them redone. I can't get down there before next Friday so another week to wait before the prints get sent off again. They probably won't be accepted this time either, but I have to follow the process. Sigh.

Doesn't the Livescan office check to ensure the fingerprinting is "acceptable" prior to submission?

Well, you would think they would know what is acceptable and what isn't. I can't imagine getting "better" fingerprints next week. I was hopeful that it wouldn't take long to get my license, but it looks like it may be a while now.

Update - received my FL license late last week! Only took 3.5 weeks. Anyone have any leads for a new grad nurse?

Congratulations on getting your FL license. I am currently a nurse in Ohio, my husband and I will be relocating to Florida within the next 4-6 months. I had heard that it was taking 3-4 months to get a Florida nursing license. We were in Fl the first week of August so I did my background check, CE and application while we were there. I was happy and surprised to recieve it in 19 days! No problem or delay's at all. Now to tie up loose ends in Ohio and get that moving truck headed south! Good Luck on the job search. While we were there I had 2 job interview's, both went well. Was told from both to get my license and come see them then....they said there is plenty of work. Also would be getting a pay raise based on what they offered me.

I didn't follow up on my license, but I got mine too and it didn't take a long time really, about 6 wks. The biggest hold up was having my fingerprints rejected twice so they had to do a background check instead. All is well now though.

I am coming to the Sarasota area from IL with family and RN experience 1 yr in ER and 3 yr in Med-Surg hospital setting. Thinking about home health care for the flexibility. I've heard SMH is the WORST place to work, but haven't really heard anyone say where is the BEST!?! Doctor's Hospitals get good remarks. Any input is appreciated! Plan is to move and rent 6 mos to make sure we love it and then buy. Husband is a self-employed carpenter looking to get into handy man type repairs. Kids are 6 and 5. I applied for and received my FL license last fall when we put our house on the market and we finally have a serious buyer. Final negotiations this week!
