I've noticed quite a bit of activity for a couple of weeks now inside the old Albertsons and wonder if anyone knows what is going in there?

You know, I heard (at one point) that they were considering opening up one of those Wal-marts that are grocery section only....but that was about a year ago and I haven't heard anything since. I frequent that area but I guess I hadn't payed much attention. If I hear anything I'll let you know!

One of the things that was shocking to me to see as a new arrival, was how many businesses have failed and left empty buildings all around otherwise prosperous areas of town. The rents must be very high or they had bad management.

I'm hoping with Kroger buying up Harris & Teeter they will also add many more stores.

Businesses are closing rapidly in other cities too. I can speak for Los Angeles. In the last year, a high traffic corner of Santa Monica Blvd died. The businesses on 3 of the 4 corners closed.

First a flower shop closed, then a kickboxing gym, then an artist supply store. The only corner that survived has a Budget truck rental. I guess helping people get out of Dodge is still a viable business.

I think the recession has just worn a lot of businesses down. They have been hanging on by a thread for 5 years and just couldn't make a go of it any longer. I would hate to be a commercial real estate broker.

You know what I wonder? What's going to happen to that old abandoned Winn-Dixie.

Which location?

If you're asking about the one on the SE corner of State Rd 70 & Lockwood Ridge Rd, a developer out of south FL wants to build an apartment complex on the back of the property and have a small retail strip center in the front, along SR70. They filed some preliminary plans with the county this past spring, haven't heard anything about the project since then.

I think I may just ask one of the workers if I see any, next time I go by. Will post the response. Thanks, all.
