Hubby is getting down on Sarasota after his day of exploring by himself. Back home the local grocery has a huge amount of floor space devoted to beer and wine. You can get all kinds of beer for $6 a six pack and they give you 30% off at the register if you buy 4 six packs. It includes brands like Stella Artois.

Here it is $12 a six pack in the places his has looked. Is he looking in the wrong places? or are the taxes on beer high to make up for a lack of a sales tax?

Please help Hubby out of his funk. Tell him where he can get the good stuff cheap. (Stores not bars).

I'm not sure about the alcohol laws but I'm pretty sure it cannot be discounted unless it is published somewhere (ad in the local paper). It's regulated by ATF (alcohol, tobacco, and firearms) so I'm sure you can get more info on their website about that.

As far as beer goes, the taxes are pretty high and I've found the best prices at that big Wine Emporium whose name escapes me. Fine Wines? Better Wines? It's like the Walmart for wine and beer. Off University by I75.

Hubby is looking it up as I type this.

EDIT--2 minutes later he is purring because the price for Stella at Total Wines is half what it costs at Publix.

EDIT--For the last 5 minutes, he last been shouting out with glee the names of beers--Red Stripe, Magic Hat, Delirium Tremors. He's happy and just fessed up to being happy. Let me pass his thank you on to you BlueHerons. Oh another shout out --Checkvar.

Total Wine, indeed: literally hundreds of beer brands, by the blt, 6 pack, case, keg. Blts, cans, et al
About the same price for beer in the FL TW stores as in the NJ stores, both of which I am quite familiar with...

Liquor prices in FL, esp in TW, are a tad cheaper than other TW stores in some other states; it all depends on the state tier set up and 'minimum pricing'. ATF has nothing to do with state(s) pricing other than the standard fed tax collected on spirits, wine and beer, which is actually set by the A&TT&TB. State taxes on each, (beer/wine/spirits), have huge variances from state to state.

The usual suspect grocery stores all sell beer, and there are often sales...

If the Hub couldn't find well priced beer on his 'driving around', he didn't make many or any 'good stops', imo.
GL, mD

It is good to know that the horrible prices he initially found are not the norm. We were afraid it was high state tax on liquor.

So far in my very time spent in Florida, I am amazed at the ways they find to extract $$$ from people. I know it is intended to soak the tourists, but really.

I am sure that Hubby would love to be tipped off about places that might be a good stop. He is already impressed the power of this forum to solve his problem so quickly.

In FL, stores have (If not, it seems so) to sell liquor, other than like wine and beer in separate stores, like Bj's has a separate liquor store.
