I just found out I've been offered a job transfer to the Fl. Office with my company. They said they would offer a bonus to help with the move. INow I'm wondering how far tgat bonus would go, I don't qualify for a relication package. I have no idea what it would cost to move, could anyone share the typical cost of moving... I have a house to sell, closing cost for that, a boat and 2 cars

It really depends on what you're going to move by way of household items. If you're loading up a whole house of furniture that can be expensive. Many people just sell all their northern stuff and buy stuff for the new house when they get here. There are a lot of second hand- Goodwill, Salvation Army- places. There are also some inexpensive furniture stores such as Rooms to Go. If you want stuff equivalent to the old Levitz and Seamans (I know they are no longer in business) you've got Hudson's and Haverty's.

When we bought our FL house it was a second house. I furnished it with Costco, Rooms to Go, Wayfair (web), Lazboy, Florida Leather, and a local office furniture store for desks and bookcase. Since I only had to bring clothes and sentimental items, I used FedEx ground. Cost me $750 so far. I've probably got $100 more to send if it doesn't fit in the car. We drove one car down and when the house is sold, we're going to fly back up get the other car and the few things left in the house and drive down here. Everything we don't want in the house will be donated or given away to friends. (Hubby does not want to go through a garage sale).

No, I plan on Taking them with me. I really dont want to trailer a 21ft boat down to fl.

May get rid of most of my furniture and buy new too.

I think my biggest expense is selling my house and whatever I need to spend on that.

If you want specifics PM me, I grew up on long island, lived in CT for a few years, and relocated to Parrish FL last year, which is about 15 miles north of Sarasota. I will give you the scoop for real on life here from the point of view of someone who lived in Massapequa from 1976 to 2003.

We moved from Boston area late last year. It cost around $5500-6k to move a 1900 sqft 3bed/2 bath home. Big moving truck. It should have been less but we got dinged from the original estimate for weight as we have a small weight room and we had a few loosely packed things which the movers then pack into their own boxes which = $$$.

We bought boxes and did the packing. The movers loaded the boxes, drove, and brough the boxes into the house. I drove the cars down in two trips. In all not terribly bad. If you are living alone or have a small home check out one of the many container shippers like PODS. We used them from California to Boston before we settled down and acquired more stuff and it was easy. They drop off the container, you pack it up and pad lock it, they deliver it. Normally a month of free storage is included.

If you do PODS, make sure to get the proper inventory. One of the posters here lost some stuff in a move from CA to FL because the PODS guy did something wrong and then claimed the PODS were empty. Don't remember the whole story but you can look for posts by Cardiff By The Sea and PODS.

10 grand to move a big house - thank God my husbands company paid for it. This price is with the moving company packing everything up before they load it on the tractor trailer. The time of year you move can make a difference in price with the big trucking companies.

I told the wife if it won't fit in the 16' Uhaul it ain't coming.
I'm trying to come with a few photo albums, a TV, and the clothes on our backs.
Selling or throwing everything out.
We'll get new stuff when we get down there. I'm not moving my house half way across the country. Bad enough it's gonna cost between $1500/2000 to rent the truck one-way from LI to Fl.
